1 Kings 19:20-21 Elisha said to Elijah "Let me kiss my father and mother good-by, then I will come with you. Elijah replied. Go back. Then verse 21 says "So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook and the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah ...."Wow! Now that's a response to the call of ministry. Remember, this is how Elisha responded after Elijah the great prophet came and threw his cloak around him. This meant that God was calling Elisha to become a prophet like Elijah. But, look at his response. He slaughtered his oxen, burned the plowing equipment, and followed ... Basically, ELISHA BURNED HIS SAFETY NET IN CASE THE MINISTRY DIDN'T WORK OUT.It's no secret how many ministers are leaving the ministry these days, but could it be that we haven't "spiritually" burned our safety net yet. Become resolute, that God has called me, and there's no turning back, no matter how difficult it gets.In the gospels, Jesus said, no man who puts his hand to plow and looks back is fit for the Kingdom. And in the words of GENE JACKSON "Never Quit, You Can Never Quit."I just felt someone needs to hear this.
